Graceful Designs

Hello from London!

May 7th, 2009

I’ve spent quite a bit of time so far just trying to catch up on lost sleep. Couldn’t fall asleep on the 8 hour flight here as it just wasn’t comfortable enough for me to do so. Snapped a picture of a sumptuous Godiva chocolate trio I bought on board the duty free cart on the plane.

Wonderful little chocolate pearls in this cute little flip top tin. Grace I know you’re turning green right now! I’ll try to save you some but I’m not promising anything!

Also snapped a pic of the view from our room. As you can see it’s busy and there’s some construction going on. Frequently there’s police sirens going off here. Don’t know if that means there’s a lot of crime or what. Anyhow, will check in later when I have some good pics to share. Didn’t bring the fancy camera so quality may not be my usual pics.

Joujou Charm Keeper Necklace

December 31st, 2008

I finally got around to taking a photo of my Joujou Charm Keeper Necklace that I made in Deryn’s class. Not the best photo as I didn’t feel like dragging out the tripod, etc. The stones I used are eudialyte. Hard to tell from the photo but they are a beautiful dark green and bordeaux color with black flecks. Wonderful but spendy stone!

Deryn gave us silk ribbon to use for the portion that connects the necklace together behind  the neck but I’m not fond of that frayed look so I think I’ll take it apart and use something else.

I decided to use a wonderful toggle clasp that I bought from Bali. Many thanks to Allegra for telling me about these a while back. They are some of the most beautiful clasps that I’ve ever seen. And luckily I snagged them quite some time ago before the silver prices went up.

Links

I’ve assembled some links on my page from artists whose work I admire. I’m new to the altered art thing so I really appreciate the talent and creativity these ladies possess. I’m grateful for their willingness to share their passions online. Check them out!

I personally took a class in October with Deryn Mentock. That is when my eyes were truly opened to a whole new world of jewelry making that I admired from afar. We worked on the Joujou charm keeper necklace and each of us who took the class designed something truly unique. Check out the pictures on Deryn’s blog - Something Sublime.
